Rachel Bone’s gouache and ink paintings are inspired by Scandinavian folk art and design as well as children’s book illustration and choose-your-own-adventure novels. In her paintings, she seeks to mix a lighthearted sense of humor with an admiration for pattern and line, with subjects ranging from the beauty of animals to the challenges faced by women in the modern business world.
My favorite part of Rachel’s work is how the richness of the patterning combines with the sparseness of the composition. Her pieces are composed of flat colors and patterns, but have a visual depth that’s irresistible.
