    scenes from MirrorMask

Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, the writer and illustrator of books like The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldish, The Wolves in the Walls, and Mr. Punch, also made a movie. MirrorMask didn’t make the biggest splash but every frame is an inspiration. Like the director was painting on film.

    I have seen this movie.
    Is really an inspiration!
Sadly my rented copy was badly scratched towards the end, and I couldn’t see the last part. I have to buy it, my wife will love it.

    Really recommended.

It’s also a Henson project…. which to me makes it doubly appealing and beautiful. ♥

yes! i heard that it was sort of commissioned by the jim henson company as a sister film to movies like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth (in which david bowie sings… you remind me of the babe… what babe? …the babe with the power… what power… the power of voodoo… who do?… you do!… what?!… you remind me of the babe.) a trilogy of weirdness.

I love that you just quoted “Magic Dance.” I get that song (and that exact line!) stuck in my head all the time because that was one of my all-time favorite movies as a kid.

I was hoping it was funded by Cirque Du Soleil when I first saw it. :-) Anyway, great film. I agree with you, every frame is a work of art.

[...] This week is the last week to see the Rogue Artists Ensemble’s stage adaptation of The Tragical Comedy or The Comical Tragedy of Mr. Punch. The production uses clever make-up, puppetry, and set design to recreate the look of the source material, a wonderful graphic novel by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean. [...]
