I Love You San Diego Comicon by Rama Hughes

every summer, my wife (flirting above with a tim biskup monster) takes me to the San Diego Comic Convention. if you haven’t been… if you are ANYWHERE nearby… even if you have a complete disinterest in comics… you must go. at least once. to see the supermen with potatoes in their underwear. to be outnumbered by storm troopers. to experience the culture shock of complete immersion in nerdland.

not to mention the fact that many of the best illustrators in the world are there. in real life. signing books. selling weird stuff. smiling. having fun. absolutely willing to make friends… or enact an awkward moment.

I had my doubts before I went to my first comic-con (which, oddly enough, was before I even met Rama), but I was a goner after a few minutes of walking around and watching all the superheroes and storm troopers. It’s just too good.

My wife wasn’t that excited to go the first time… but now she loves it, too!

The Klingons have all been replaced by Stormtroopers! Yay!

    Booth # 1616 - LAST GASP

Here we go again! A great lineup of artists are signing at the Last Gasp booth this year. Last Gasp will also have a new release from Mark Ryden that will surely sell out quickly! (Sorry, no details… it’s a surprise.)

We are proud to host Carol Lay, signing her brand new graphic novel “Goodnight, Irene” which the Guardian (UK) calls “sly, absurdist humour” and “a much-needed antidote” for the cliches of romance.

Mark Ryden signing “Fushigi Circus”; Peter de Seve signing his Sketchbook; Mitch O’Connell signing the last copies of the sold-out “Mitch O’Connell: Tattoos”; Molly Crabapple signing “Dr. Sketchy’s Official Rainy Day Coloring Book”; and Romain Hugault signing “The Final Flight.”

As you’ve come to expect, the booth will be overflowing with new and rare art books and graphic novels, and you never know who will drop by to do some shopping.

    Here is the lineup

Thursday 12noon - 2pm Romain Hugault signing “The Final Flight”
Thursday 2pm-4pm Peter de Seve signing his Sketchbook
    Thursday 4pm - 6pm Mitch O’Connell signing “Mitch O’Connell: Tattoos”

Friday 11am-1pm Mark Ryden signing “Fushigi Circus”
Friday 2pm -3pm Carol Lay signing “Goodnight, Irene”
Friday 3pm-5pm Molly Crabapple signing “Dr. Sketchy’s Official Rainy Day Coloring Book”

Saturday 11am-1pm Carol Lay signing “Goodnight, Irene”
    Saturday 4pm - 6pm Mitch O’Connell signing “Mitch O’Connell: Tattoos”

See you at Last Gasp - Booth 1616!!

I am definitely not a big comic fan, but I did just get back from my first Comic Con. And boy was that an experience. I did have a great time. Seeing everyone in costume and the artists working right there in front of you was a huge highlight. In case you aren’t sure about attending yourself, you should check out the footage on Zannel (www.zannel.com/comiccon). Even if you did attend you might see something that you missed. :)
