Charlie and the Cartoon Factory.
Hello and allow me to apologize for my absence. If you haven’t heard (and who hasn’t honestly?) I’ve recently purchased my first home! So, I’ve spent the better half of the last quarter paying people a lot of money for things that, when done, I’m rewarded with the sinking feeling that I JUST PAID SOMEONE TO DUCT TAPE A TUBE. That’s the joy of owning a home folks. paying gruff looking men to come in and just suh-wear that you need something fixed, only to quote you 300 bucks for what amounts to 20 minutes of actual work.
Ok, now I digress. Amongst the chaos of homebuying, I attended the 2007 HOW design conference alongside a few thousand creatives (including our favorite IF creator Penelope). While there we were given the chance to tour the Cartoon Network, which was a complete blast. I won’t go into details on the trip (I’ve documented it elsewhere, as have many others) but I wanted to mention one feature of the tour. The cool people over at CN love artists, and they allowed graffiti-style Atlanta Native, Charlie Owens.
If you go to his site, be sure to check out the skateboards. Very cool stuff. I only wish he had more work online… Anyway, here are a couple of shots I took while at the Cartoon Network. First, a shot of the wall:
And here’s another with my fellow tourists, Penelope and Stephen, both checking out the work:
Charlie used a wheat-pasting method, combined with actual spraypaints to complete the giant murals. Pretty impressive.
