  • The Secret Origin of Kitty Pryde

    Kitty Pryde by Barnaby Ward

WHAT THE?! You don’t know who Kitty Pryde is?! Oh man… She is an X-man, she can walk through walls, she knows her way around a computer, she was Spider-Man’s girlfriend for a little while, she is mentioned by name in a Weezer song, she was voted the greatest female comic-book character of all time (beating out Wonder Woman, yes). Simply put, she is the dreamgirl of every comic book fanboy. That’s why I was so delighted when I found this comic by Stanley Lieber about the true origin of Kitty Pryde.

You can CLICK THE COMIC to see a bigger version. It depicts John Byrne, a celebrated writer/artist of X-Men comics and the creator of Kitty Pryde. He is hard at work illustrating Kitty’s earliest adventures while he explains how the character was created. The reader’s focus trails away from the details of Kitty’s origin to the character’s actual comic book adventures.

By the way, the portrait of Kitty Pryde at the top of this post was drawn by Barnaby Ward as a promotional piece for Full Of Pryde, a collection of Kitty Pryde artwork sold to raise funds for the Hemophilia Treatment Center in Oregon.
