Thanks for the very probing interview, both Yuko and Edel, for his answers. I love that he will create in the way that he feels is appropriate for each piece. That is very encouraging and intimidating at the same time, because then how do people "know" you? Of course, he is chosen because he has a reputation and is a wonderful technician and thinker. For someone who is just trying to establish herself in the illustration world, I feel like I need to have "a look" before I start branching off into my explorations, but maybe that's not so. I will follow Edel and use him as inspiration and a way to keep things interesting for all.

Thanks for this interview. It's nice to see an illustrator so successful that has worked with so many mediums and styles. I've been an artist for years and for the past 10 years a graphic designer. Over the years I've never really set on one medium or style, but am glad that my free work still speaks mostly of one style. It's encouraging to see another artist work this way. As I set about now to do more art and illustration, it's nice to see that it may be OK for me to work with the medium that I feel called for for each piece, yet still be able to call it my own. I like the way Edel choses his mediums based upon what he is trying to communicate.

Thanks for these pieces on working artists.

Great questions Yuko! Edel has a realistic yet progressive outlook on how to make a living as an illustrator. It's what I strive to be more like and it great to hear about how it all connects with the family. Keeping the balance is very important. With this outlook I see much success in Edel's creative future!

Intelligent and thought-provoking interview! I wish more AD thought like Edel's work; concentrating more on the ideas with varies styles than going for the same thing day after day. It seems, the big-time mags and ADs allow for experimenting, but they don't give newcomers much of a chance, and the little mags want the same stuff all the time! It puts many illustrators in a bind, creatively...money or following the muse and unfortunately, since we need money to live, money wins out!

Edel is a wonderful example of sticking to your creative muse and I love his work and will continue to follow his wonderful success and be inspired! Bravo my friend!

This interview is great!
I found more and more illustrators decide to follow their own pace instead the market one. I really love this kind of particular people more interested in their pleasure and creativity than only repeat theirselves for a buck. I know, money is necessary, but when Miss Muse went out... I think that it is the real problem.
Great work!
