Comic-Con vs. Comic-Clone, Part VII
Sunday is Kids’ Day at the San Diego Comic Convention and the programming did not disappoint.
10:00-5:00 Children’s Film Festival – The 7th annual San Diego International Children’s Film Festival features more than 60 short films from around the world — animation, live action, and documentary — good for all ages. Room 9
Comic-Clone participants can create their own film festival with a quick trip to the video store. Here are a few comic-conventional suggestions though!
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a half hour animated adventure show set in everyone’s favorite galaxy far, far way. It had an entire arena at Comic-Con proper. So, it’s a no-brainer for Comic-Clone. The first season has already been collected on DVD but current episodes can be streamed on StarWars.com.
Futurama is an animated scifi comedy created by comics artist, Matt Groening. Canceled and resurrected numerous times on numerous channels, it qualifies easily as a cult hit. Any of these qualities make the show a shoe-in for comic conventions. And it’s perfect for Comic-Clone because the first four seasons can be watched instantly on Netflix.
Iron Man Armored Adventures is my own not-so-guilty pleasure. It is a beautifully animated re-imagining of the Iron Man comic book. The first season was recently released on DVD and the first four episodes are also available for instant viewing on Netflix.
Ranma 1/2 is a Japanimated sitcom about a boy with a curse; Whenever he gets splashed with water, he turns into a girl. It might be harder to find then some of these other cartoons but it’s funny, touching, and action-packed. It even features the original Kung Fu panda!
But enough about my Comic-Clone film festival. What films or television shows do you recommend?
