As just the first hint of a number of exciting developments for a mobile Illustration Friday, we’re introducing a version of the blog today that’s formatted specially for iPhone, iPod touch, and other PDA/Smartphones. To check it out, just pop our URL into your mobile browser and let us know what you think.
The formatting of WordPress posts and pages is courtesy of a slightly-modified version of the excellent WP-PDA plugin. We’ll be making our changes available to the author and to the community as we work the bugs out. Stay tuned for more developments on this and more mobile-friendly interaction around the entire Illustration Friday site.
If you’re looking for a better way to follow the weekly topic announcements than the primitive mailing list, hop over to Twitter and follow Illoannounce, the newly-officially-endorsed-unoffical Illustration Friday twitterer.
Four years ago this week Penny and I flipped the switch on Illustration Friday’s very own site, and here we are today! Thank you, P, for the most fun I’ve ever had writing code.
Artful Blogging, a magazine by Stampington&Company, interviewed me about Illustration Friday for their Spring 08 issue! This magazine is chock full of good things to inspire, so pick up a copy if you see one.
The interview features quite a few IF participants including:
and Amy Stadelmann
The first ever Illustration Friday show was amazing. I was sure I’d be able to blog it as it happened – hanging the art, setting up the stage, the creation and presentation of 150 cupcakes, meeting the artists. I have no idea why I thought that, because I ended up being so busy with preparations that I barely sat down from Friday until midnight on Saturday. It was so much fun.
Sé and I stayed up very late getting the art placed within the gallery. Unpacking all the artwork (25 boxes!!) was like an early Christmas – we ooh’ed and ahh’ed over prints and held things up across the room yelling “What do you think? Is it crooked?”. Every single artist participated, and I am just incredibly awed and proud of everyone – we gave you a tight deadline and you all met it with room to spare, and gave us a wealth of beautiful, professional work to display.
I’ve put up a few photos at Flickr, and I’ll confess that I was having such a good time talking to the artists that I only took pictures as the night was winding to a close. But the show is hanging at Open (map) until January 20th, so you have plenty of time to see it for yourself!!
Illustration Friday and Open are excited to showcase twenty-five community-chosen artists at the first ever Illustration Friday gallery show!
The show begins November 3rd and runs through January 20th.
The IF community created 678 total entries, and if you haven’t taken a look at “open“, then you are missing some of the best work of Illustration Friday yet!
Congratulations, you guys! And many thanks to all the artists who make Illustration Friday such an inspiration week in and week out. See you at the show!
I don’t know if you noticed the newest name on the list at the left… but we are welcoming Camilla Engman as a new IF blogger! We are so excited to have Camilla with us… her work is so fantastic (simple, colorful, and sweet!) and she somehow manages to find the best links to peruse online. So hi Camilla! We’re so happy to have you!

I also wanted to quickly mention that we have an IF update planned very soon. We’re adding some awesome new features to the site to make it even more fun (user logins where you can customize the look for your profile, keep track of your faves, and see your participation history, etc.) I think you’re going to love it! So stay tuned for that… (And thank you Brianna for all your time-consuming, hard work on that! You rock!)
