Alberto Cerriteño is originally from Mexico City and now lives and works in Portland. He has more than ten years of experience as Art Director in several agencies doing advertising, print, interactive, installations and educational work, and is now a freelance artist and illustrator. Alberto has developed his own very personal technique and style, with its roots in traditional Mexican art with its rich textures and decorative patterns.
Alberto’s colorways are spot on and the geometric rhythms are hypnotic, but for me, it’s really the textures that bring it home.
These letterpress animals put a smile on my face. Simple. Great colors. Fun.

I recently interviewed Jessica Hische for a monthly illustration column I write for the leading design magazine in Argentina, 90+10. It was the first time I realized how much illustration can be found in typography, though it doesn’t mean (at all) the two always use each other.
Ever since then I’ve been paying much more attention to typography, understanding it’s not only a tool that often complements illustration, but it can also be seen as illustration if we stretch the definition of what we do just a bit.
This is all to humbly justify my posting a typography piece of news here, hoping you’ll find it as interesting as I do.
