Topic: Scanner

Hi,

My name is Carmen from Toronto, Canada. I have a technical question about scanning paintings from paper to a digital format.

I work with watercolour and Indian ink on paper, and then I scan and transfer into digital image. What I found is most home use scanners in the market are either letter size or legal size, it limits the size of my works. Or if I go for a professional scanner which can manage larger paper but very expensive.

Also, is there any good quality scanner you recommend? I have one “Brother† multi functional machine but the quality is just average. It does not transfer a nice outcome for watercolour. I spoke to couple sales at Staples, I was told that the light of the scanner brings different scanning qualities, it's the reason to make various price. And I was told that Canon is a good brand name for scanner.

I wonder if anyone encounters the same issue as I do, I would love to hear from you how you solve the problem.

Thanks so much for your advice~
Carmen =)

Re: Scanner

Hello Carmen,

I use an Epson 4990 which I can recommend for quality and functionality. Its A4 format which I settled on because stepping up to a larger format scanner was beyond my means. Many of my paintings are larger than A4 in size but I over come this mismatch in formats by scanning the images in sections then piecing them back together again in Photoshop. It can be time consuming, but it works.

Re: Scanner

Thank you so much for your info. I was thinking to scan in sections and put them together but haven't tried it. I will look into the scanner. : )
