Topic: self promotion resources

I was wondering about what ever resources every here is using to aid in self promotion?

personally i found the  AOI Client Directories very good and i have got work out them but i only email dint post so thus only contacted a quarter of the list which was foolish on my part. hence the previous post about post cards

and i'm currently trying to see if graphic artists guild which is the US version of the AOI has any thing the same but not finding much luck..

I got the writer and artist hand book form a library once , it seem more aimed at writes then illustrators

where else should i be looking?

what is every one else using?

Re: self promotion resources

Have you tried www.foliofox.com. Good resource directory. It also has a portfolio section. Its new so getting in early would be beneficial.

Re: self promotion resources

Maybe i should a definition; Client Directories is 'The Directories provide an inexpensive way to acquire contact details allowing you to promote your work to various types of illustration commissioners.

There are three directories available: Advertising, Editorial and Publishing, providing hundreds of contact details of illustration commissioners. Each contact includes information about their identity and the style of illustration they are interested in, to enable you to contact commissioners appropriate for your own work'

about 500 art directors contact details in each which for £33 it pretty nice to me

Well i checked foliofox.com had a look for newspapers and magazine publishing which had 1 enter and advertising agency which seemed to be full of illustrators lol tho i will be registering with the web site ;) so thanks for the infomation

im very surprised these Directories are not used by more people...

or i superpose every one may be keeping there self promotion resources as carefully guard secrets ...

Re: self promotion resources

how to promote urself is largely depending on how u gonna describe urself in all sorts of facets concerning to ur self. thats supposed to be a job that gotta be done by urself.

Re: self promotion resources

The Artist and Graphic Designer's Market and the Children's Writers and Illustrator's Market can be useful.

Mastheads.org is good resource for magazine contacts, and you can submit mastheads that they need in order to get free access: http://www.mastheads.org/article-contributing.htm

I know there are also lists that you can purchase but that I haven't used myself.  Adbase I've heard is good.
